We are looking for a Risk Officer to join the company and further develop its risk management function as the business continues to grow.
Our client is a private financial company operating in the brokerage and financial markets domain. The company is building its own brokerage ecosystem and places strong emphasis on transparent risk management, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
This is a hands-on, highly autonomous expert role, not a people-management position. We are looking for someone who can independently identify risks, determine the appropriate methodology, perform or oversee the necessary calculations and analysis, draw conclusions, and translate them into practical improvements to risk processes.
The role requires a strong understanding of financial markets and securities, together with the technical ability to work with risk metrics and methodologies.
We're looking for an experienced risk professional who enjoys working independently, making well-reasoned decisions, and improving established processes.
Location: Almaty, Kazakhstan (full-time, office-based).
We are offering:
Competitive salary in the range of 1,200,000–1,500,000 KZT net, depending on experience and qualifications;
Full-time employment with official registration in accordance with local legislation;
Paid vacation and sick leave;
Opportunity to help strengthen and further develop the company's risk management framework;
Professional growth within a stable and growing financial company;
A collaborative team and well-established internal processes.
Interview Process:
HR Screening (30–40 minutes);
Online interview with the Risk Officer (the CEO and CFO may also join);
Final on-site interview with the CEO and CFO;
Job Offer.
What kind of qualifications we are looking for:
3-5+years of experience in market risk, financial risk, risk management, or a closely related function within a bank, broker, investment company, exchange, or other financial institution;
Strong understanding of financial markets and securities, including experience with investment portfolios and/or trading activities;
Hands-on experience assessing and quantifying market and credit risks;
Strong understanding of risk methodologies and metrics, such as VaR, stress testing, sensitivity analysis, exposure analysis, risk limits, etc.;
Ability to independently select an appropriate methodology for a risk problem and explain the rationale behind it;
Experience developing, maintaining, or improving risk metrics, methodologies, models, or monitoring approaches;
Experience preparing risk analysis and reporting for senior management and/or regulators;
Understanding of IFRS 9 / ECL, prudential requirements, and financial-sector risk frameworks;
Understanding of AFSA/AIFC regulatory requirements or the ability to quickly work with and interpret regulatory documentation.
Would Be a Strong Plus:
Experience with risk limits, risk appetite frameworks, pre-trade or post-trade risk controls;
Experience working with Python, SQL, or other analytical tools;
Previous experience in a brokerage, investment bank, trading business, or exchange.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit regulatory risk reports in accordance with AFSA requirements;
Prepare internal management reporting on the company's risk profile;
Assess, measure, and monitor market, credit, operational, and liquidity risks;
Independently identify and assess emerging risks, determine appropriate methodologies and risk metrics, and formulate recommendations based on the analysis;
Develop and maintain risk metrics, monitoring approaches, and internal risk management processes;
Evaluate and improve existing risk methodologies, controls, and processes as the business and risk profile evolve;
Monitor risk limits, risk appetite, and escalate significant deviations when necessary;
Perform risk analysis, stress testing, scenario analysis, and other quantitative assessments where required;
Monitor changes in AFSA and AIFC regulations and assess their impact on the company's activities;
Participate in developing and updating the company's Risk Management Policy and related documentation;
Translate risk analysis into practical recommendations and process improvements, working closely with relevant business and functional teams;
Collaborate with auditors and regulatory authorities on matters related to the risk management function.
If this opportunity matches your experience and career goals, we'd love to hear from you.
