C++ Engineers

Shopify is looking for C++ Engineers to build and maintain the high-performance, distributed systems that power commerce at global scale. You'll work alongside world-class engineers, ML experts, and data scientists to architect and optimize the infrastructure that millions of merchants rely on every day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain high-performance distributed systems in modern C++ (C++17/20)
- Architect fault-tolerant, low-latency services that operate reliably at massive scale
- Profile and optimize critical code paths, CPU, memory, I/O, and networks to achieve sub-millisecond performance targets.
- Own end-to-end delivery of systems, from initial design through production rollout and ongoing reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including ML engineers, data scientists, and product engineers to deliver impactful features.
- Challenge the status quo and evolve infrastructure to meet the demands of a rapidly growing platform.
Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in modern C++ (C++17/20) building production systems at scale.
- Deep experience with distributed systems, consensus protocols, replication, partitioning, fault tolerance.
- Strong understanding of systems fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, memory models, and OS internals.
- Experience with performance optimization, CPU profiling, cache optimization, lock-free programming, and low-level tuning.
- Track record of designing systems that are highly available, observable, and operationally sound.
- Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across disciplines in a fast-moving environment.
