Eleventh Hour Games is a fast-growing game studio focused on top-down action RPGs and the development of memorable player experiences. The team is currently expanding the world of Last Epoch and is looking for a Senior Technical Game Designer to help shape and implement gameplay systems, technical features, and player-facing content.
In this role, you will work closely with designers, engineers, and production teams to create scalable and maintainable gameplay systems. The position requires a strong combination of systems design expertise, technical implementation skills, and a deep understanding of loot-driven action RPGs.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and balance gameplay systems, features, and content supporting combat, progression, and player engagement
Collaborate with engineers and designers to translate design goals into technical implementations
Prototype gameplay systems and features directly within the game engine
Create and maintain technical design documentation, specifications, implementation notes, and logic flows
Identify technical constraints and opportunities and develop production-friendly solutions
Support gameplay content implementation, setup, tuning, debugging, and iteration
Work with production teams to scope features and identify risks related to quality, timelines, and maintainability
Collaborate with design, engineering, UI, and other disciplines to deliver polished player experiences
Analyze gameplay feedback, bugs, and live data to improve systems over time
Drive technical design quality through ownership, problem-solving, and collaboration
Required Skills
5+ years of experience in technical design, systems design, game design, or a related discipline on shipped games
Deep understanding of top-down action RPG systems, itemization, progression, abilities, and architecture
Experience implementing gameplay systems using scripting, visual scripting, or similar technical tools
Strong knowledge of gameplay systems design, combat design, progression, balancing, and player-facing mechanics
Ability to communicate effectively through technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration
Experience working closely with engineering teams to develop and ship gameplay systems
Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience working with complex interconnected gameplay systems
Familiarity with Unreal Engine, Unity, or comparable game engines
Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration
Nice to Have
Direct experience developing action RPGs
Experience with scripting, visual scripting, or gameplay logic implementation
Experience supporting live-service games and long-term system iteration
Familiarity with balance tuning, gameplay metrics, and data-driven design
Experience improving internal workflows and implementation pipelines
Strong understanding of itemization systems, progression systems, and ARPG combat design
